FUJAIRAH Terminals, an entity under the AD Ports Group, has been operating at the Port of Fujairah through a 35-year concession since 2017, reports London's Platts Analytics.

In an interview, Fujairah Terminals CEO Abdulaziz al Balooshi highlighted the company's strategic plans to bolster cargo traffic and expand cruise activities.

Mr Balooshi emphasised two key areas of development: integration with the UAE's Etihad Rail network and strengthened ties with Asia.

The connection of Fujairah Terminals to Etihad Rail has been successfully established, enabling the movement of container traffic from Fujairah to various destinations, including Ruwais in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Jebel Ali in Dubai, and Ras al Khaimah.

Operations for this connection were anticipated to commence in the third quarter. Mr Balooshi expressed confidence that Etihad Rail would not only enhance road safety but also align with the UAE's environmental goals by reducing carbon emissions.

Regarding the Fujairah Cruise Terminal, Balooshi noted that it accommodated over 20,000 passengers and anticipated a growing number of visitors in the current year.

However, he refrained from providing specific figures.

While Fujairah is renowned for its oil trading and bunkering activities due to its advantageous location near the Strait of Hormuz, Mr Balooshi acknowledged that the region's unique characteristics could be leveraged to offer comprehensive logistics solutions.

By doing so, vessel turnaround times have been notably shortened compared to other ports in the UAE.

The company aims to explore new trading opportunities between Fujairah and East Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and East Africa.

Fujairah Terminals already maintains connections with China, boasting loading and unloading facilities at Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Ruwais.

The company has demonstrated its capability to handle intricate shipments, including sizable windmill blades and massive gas turbines.

Fujairah, serving as the terminus of the 1.5 million barrels per day Habshan pipeline, plays a crucial role in the energy sector.

Additionally, efforts are underway to construct underground caverns for storing 42 million barrels of oil, further underlining Fujairah's significance in the global energy landscape.
