DURING the first half of 2023, Russia's FESCO Transportation Group reported significant growth in various segments of its operations, reports St Petersburg's PortNews.

International cargo shipping increased 30 per cent year-on-year to 199,000 TEU.

Intermodal transportation saw a 25 per cent growth, reaching 306,000 tonnes TEU.

Coastal shipping experienced a 17 per cent rise, amounting to 49,200 TEU.

Container handling at the Commercial Port of Vladivostok PJSC (CPV) surged 24 per cent to 430,000 TEU.

The expansion of container throughput at CPV was attributed to the Group's expanded intermodal services and collaboration with Asian sea line operators.

However, the handling of general cargo and oil products at CPV declined 24 per cent to 2.3 million tonnes.

The increase in intermodal cargo transportation was driven by greater availability of construction equipment, an expanded container platform network, geographic footprint expansion, and the launch of new services connecting Vladivostok and Saint-Petersburg to Chelyabinsk, Krasnoyarsk and Irkutsk.

To broaden its transportation reach, the group added four new units to its fleet, including two deep-sea ships.

The group's container fleet now totals 150,000. FESCO is one of Russia's leading public transportation and logistics companies, boasting operations in ports, rail, integrated logistics and shipping.

Their diverse yet integrated asset portfolio enables FESCO to offer comprehensive door-to-door logistics solutions, effectively managing nearly every aspect of the intermodal transportation value chain.

FESCO controls key entities such as the Commercial Port of Vladivostok, rail operators Transgarant and Dalreftrans, operator of container platforms Russkaya Troyka, and dry terminal facilities located in Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok and Tomsk.
