EXPANSION projects at major airports are underway in Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, with a new airline gearing up for launch this year, all banking on the anticipated surge in air travel across Southeast Asia driven by Chinese and Indian tourists, reports Agence France-Presse.
However, uncertainties loom in the economic landscape, and concerns about the environmental impact of travel are growing, casting doubt on whether the expected boom will materialize.
Scheduled to commence operations around mid-2024, Really Cool Airlines in Thailand plans to fly between Bangkok and Japan.
Really Cool Airlines CEO Patee Sarasin acknowledges the challenges of launching a new carrier in the aftermath of a pandemic.
"It's a lot of money. It has been quite gruelling to raise the funds," said Mr Parasin.
"There are some points where you say 'why am I doing this?' It crossed my mind many, many times."
