A Hong Kong-flagged container vessel owned by Taiwan’s Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation resulted in a significant accident on 16 March while docking at the Evyap Port to the east of Istanbul in Turkey.
In a video, the 368-meter-long YM Witness is approaching a docking zone at a sharp angle where four giant cranes were ready to unload the shipping containers.
The deck of YM Witness collided with one crane as it pulled into the dock, causing three of the four cranes to topple. According to the Maritime Executive, at least one individual operating a crane at that time was heavily injured.

Many cargo containers were knocked into the water. Police and firefighters were promptly dispatched to the spot to help those who were in danger and investigate the matter.
The vessel owner, Yang Ming Shipping, will likely be held responsible for the financial impairment brought about by YM Witness.
The vessel was operating along the firm’s MD3 eastbound Mediterranean shipping channel. Per UDN, Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation will contact businesses whose merchandise may be impacted by the delays resulting from the incident.
