The US Secretary of Defence, Lloyd Austin, has reportedly appreciated the crucial role played by India’s Navy in carrying out anti-piracy missions in the Indian Ocean.

He also appreciated the Navy during a call on Monday with Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister. Both ministers briefly discussed regional security, bilateral, and defence cooperation issues.

The Ministry of Defence reviewed recent bilateral events like the INDUS-X Summit, conducted in New Delhi in February this year, and the bilateral Tri-Service exercise dubbed “Tiger Triumph” commenced in India on 18 March 2024.

The two ministers also discussed different ways and means to implement the US-India Defence Cooperation Roadmap, which was concluded in 2023.

Other defence-industrial cooperation problems, like the repair of US naval vessels in the Indian shipyards, were briefly discussed. Both last met in New Delhi in November last year during the US-India Ministerial 2+2 Dialogue.
