ON April 30, 2024, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) released video footage showing their cutter, BRP Bagacay, being struck by water cannons from Chinese coast guard vessels near the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea, reports Manila's Philippines Inquirer.

The incident occurred during a patrol near a reef off the Southeast Asian country.

The China Coast Guard fired water cannons at two Philippine vessels, damaging one of them.

According to PCG representative Rear Admiral Armand Balilo, the China Coast Guard's water cannon, BRP Bagacay, directly hit the vessel.

Adm Balilo confirmed this assessment, referencing the evaluation conducted by the captain of BRP Bagacay.
