China's State Administration for Market Regulation has warned food delivery platforms against unfair competition and excessive subsidies, following a surge in price wars, reported Caixin.
At a press briefing, SAMR spokesman Wang Qiuping said the regulator had summoned major platforms for discussions and secured public commitments to curb "malicious subsidies" and comply with legal standards.
Leading firms responded by pledging to respect regulations, avoid improper competition and support stable industry development, according to Mr Wang.
SAMR said it will maintain close oversight of the sector, urging platforms to enhance service quality, uphold food safety and avoid pricing disruptions.
The watchdog also called for improved protections for delivery riders and increased support for merchants, aiming to foster a "multi-party win-win ecosystem."
