Global ecommerce payments are projected to reach US$13 trillion by 2030, up from US$8.3 trillion in 2025, driven by rapid adoption in emerging markets, reported London's IBS Intelligence.
Juniper Research attributes the 57 per cent growth to rising digital payment use in Latin America and the Indian Subcontinent, where cash is being replaced by digital wallets, bank transfers and real-time payments.
Nick Maynard, VP of FinTech Market Research at Juniper Research, said supporting local payment methods will be vital for international merchant success. He warned that providers must move beyond card-based systems to remain competitive.
The report stresses the importance of localisation, urging vendors to adapt to cultural, regulatory and consumer-specific preferences. Failure to do so could lead to stagnation amid intensifying competition.
While North America and Europe remain mature markets, growth is accelerating in regions where QR-code payments and account-to-account transactions are leapfrogging traditional card systems.
Early investment in local partnerships and infrastructure will help payment providers capture market share. Juniper's study analysed 54,000 data points across 61 countries over five years.
As online commerce expands, providers must balance global scale with market-specific strategies. Innovation, localisation and regulatory adaptability are now essential for success in the evolving digital payments landscape.
