Vietnam's Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port Cluster handled 152 million tonnes of cargo in 2024, accounting for 34 per cent of the country's container volume and reinforcing its status as a world-class international seaport, reports Vietnam News Agency.
Located in Phu My Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, the port cluster has become a key logistics gateway following the merger of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong provinces into HCMC in July 2025.
The port features three container berths, three barge berths, and a 55-hectare container yard with capacity for 51,500 TEU. It is equipped with 10 STS cranes, 22 yard cranes, and advanced handling systems to accommodate vessels up to 160,000 dwt.
Infrastructure projects such as expressways, Long Thanh International Airport, and metro lines enhance connectivity, boosting the port's competitiveness and efficiency.
The Can Gio International Transshipment Port, approved in early 2025, will span 571 hectares and is expected to be completed by 2045. Together with Cai Mep - Thi Vai, it will form a strategic port cluster positioning HCMC as a leading regional logistics centre.
According to HCMC's master plan, seaport cargo volume is projected to reach 447-476 million tonnes annually by 2030, including 28-31 million TEU, affirming Vietnam's growing role in the global supply chain.
