Two Russian tankers were damaged in a drone strike by Ukraine's Security Service (SSU) at the oil port of Primorsk on 12 September, Kiev's Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing Reuters and Ukrainian military sources.
The vessels, Kusto and Cai Yun, are part of Russia's shadow fleet and sail under the Seychelles flag. The attack reportedly forced a suspension of operations at Primorsk, Russia's largest oil export port in the Baltic Sea.
The pumping station at the port was also targeted, though the extent of damage remains unclear. Experts estimate Primorsk handles US$100 million in turnover daily, making even brief shutdowns economically significant.
On the day of the attack, Leningrad Oblast Governor Alexander Drozdenko confirmed that one of the ships at Primorsk was on fire following the drone strike.
