Malaysia's state energy firm Petronas has supplied the country's first locally-blended sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Malaysia Airlines for use on daily flights to London, Reuters reported.
The SAF was processed at Petronas facilities and delivered to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, where it will fuel Malaysia Aviation Group flights until 16 September. The move marks a key step in integrating renewable fuel into regular operations.
Ahmad Adly Alias, Petronas vice president for refining, marketing and trading, said the company is committed to supporting Malaysia's net-zero ambitions and the development of future fuels.
The announcement aligns with Malaysia's broader energy transition goals. Under its 2023 roadmap, the government aims for a 47 per cent SAF blending mandate by 2050.
Authorities also plan to introduce a one per cent SAF blending mandate for international flights departing KLIA starting January 2027.
