MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has developed an advanced cargo system for MSC Gulsun, the world's largest containership, delivered in July 2019 by Samsung Heavy Industries, reports London's SeaNews.
MSC Gulsun measures 400 metres in length and 61.5 metres in width, and is the first of 11 ultra-large vessels. Six are being built by Samsung and five by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.
The cargo system was designed in close collaboration with MSC to meet operational needs and maximise cargo intake. It also enhances flexibility in cargo handling and planning.
MacGregor naval architect Atte Virta said the system is "industry-leading" and supports a 24-container wide ship design, boosting MSC Gulsun's capacity to 23,756 TEU.
MacGregor vice president Magnus Sjoberg said customer collaboration enables tailored solutions that meet market demands effectively.
MSC newbuildings chief Giuseppe Gargiulo said the partnership with MacGregor ensures strategic investments focus on performance and innovation, benefiting both parties.
MacGregor booked the orders for these vessels in 2018 and early 2019. No further contractual details were disclosed.
