Adani Group's Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala has handled over one million TEU within nine months of starting commercial operations, exceeding its first-year target, reported Mumbai's Projects Today.

Operated by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Vizhinjam began operations last December. The port was expected to reach 30 per cent of its one-million TEU capacity in its first year but surpassed that benchmark well ahead of schedule.

Kerala's Minister for Ports V N Vasavan said the milestone marked a proud moment for both the state and India's maritime ambitions. He added that the port's second phase, including rail and road links, would begin shortly.

Since launch, Vizhinjam has received more than 460 vessels, including 26 ultra-large container vessels measuring up to 399.99 metres. The MSC Paloma recorded the highest container exchange at an Indian port with 10,576 TEUs handled.
