Jordan saw a 33.3 per cent rise in container vessel arrivals from January to August 2025, totalling 396 ships, reports Amman's Jordan Times.

Container throughput reached 556,844 standard containers, marking a 22.3 per cent year-on-year increase, according to Jordan Shipping Association secretary-general Mohammad Dalabih.

The association said Aqaba Port showed strong performance and growth, reflecting a recovery in Jordan's maritime transport sector and improved trade handling efficiency.

Dalabih attributed the growth to efforts aimed at enhancing Aqaba's competitiveness and operational capacity, which helped attract more global shipping lines.

Passenger traffic rose 28.4 per cent, with 235,654 travellers passing through Aqaba Port, indicating renewed interest in passenger ferry services.

Export volumes included 4.36 million tonnes of phosphate, 1.59 million tonnes of potash and 448,152 tonnes of iron.

Imports comprised 670,253 tonnes of wheat, 461,974 tonnes of corn and 683,936 tonnes of barley.

Livestock imports through Aqaba reached 121,896 cattle and 685,091 sheep.

Vehicle imports surged 100.4 per cent to 58,418 units, driven by increased demand from Syria and the return of ro-ro shipping lines.
