Konecranes has launched its Noell Hydrogen Fuel Cell Straddle Carrier at the TOC Americas 2025 event in Panama City, marking its debut in the Americas and globally, reported Saint Petersburg's PortNews.

The hydrogen-powered straddle carrier is currently undergoing testing at Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG's hydrogen test field in Hamburg. Initial results show performance on par with diesel and hybrid models.

The launch was part of a broader showcase that included the Konecranes E-Hybrid RTG and the electric empty container handler, reflecting the company's push to expand its low- and zero-emission port equipment portfolio.

The E-Hybrid RTG combines battery technology with cable reel or busbar systems connected to the grid. Batteries act as the primary power source and can be recharged as needed.

The electric empty container handler, introduced in October 2024, is now available across the Americas. It can operate for up to 12 hours on a single charge, with deliveries underway in other regions.

Konecranes is a Finnish firm listed on Nasdaq Helsinki, specialising in lifting equipment and maintenance services for industrial and port operations. It operates in over 50 countries and employed around 16,500 people in 2024, with annual sales of EUR4.2 billion (US$4.8 billion).
