German logistics systems provider Lodige Industries has received the Innovation Award - Product at the 41st Air Cargo News Awards in London for its automated guided vehicles (AGVs) used in air cargo terminals, reports Wisconsin's Aviation Pros.

The AGVs are designed to automate the movement of unit load devices across cargo facilities, reducing dependence on fixed conveyors and manual transport. The system improves space utilisation, boosts handling efficiency and lowers risks of equipment damage and workplace accidents.

Lodige began developing and testing the technology in 2018 and has now started broader implementation. The vehicles are already in use at several terminals and can travel long distances within facilities.

Bjorn Ussat, director of airport logistic solutions at Lodige Industries, said the award highlights the company's commitment to enhancing operational safety and efficiency through automation.
