CMA CGM has named its second 15,000-TEU dual-fuel methanol containership, the CMA CGM Eugenie, reported London's Logistics Manager.
The Kun class vessel was built by Jiangnan Shipyard and represents a step in CMA CGM's plan to operate 150 low-carbon ships by 2029. The naming ceremony took place in Shanghai in December.
The Eugenie is deployed on the Phoenician Express (BEX2) service, linking Asia with the Middle East and Mediterranean. The vessel's dual-fuel engine reduces sulphur oxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, aligning with International Maritime Organization 2030 targets.
Equipped with intelligent systems for real-time monitoring of fuel efficiency and safety, the ship also offers capacity for dry and refrigerated cargo. As a 15,000-TEU vessel, it supports growing trade between the Far East and the Levant.
The BEX2 service remains the largest regular service through the Suez Canal, with a rotation including Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Alexandria, Beirut, Rijeka, Koper, Trieste, Mersin, Jeddah and Port Klang.
The Eugenie joins her sister ship, the CMA CGM Antigone, underscoring the group's commitment to decarbonising East-West corridors. By adopting methanol fuel, CMA CGM is offering shippers more sustainable supply chain options.
