Greek tanker owner Metrostar Management Corp, backed by Theodore Angelopoulos, has returned to the container shipping sector with the purchase of two 1,296-TEUers, reported Singapore's Splash 247.

Alphaliner said Metrostar acquired the Contship Eve II and Contship Max II from compatriot Contships Management for an undisclosed sum. The Contship Eve II is chartered to X-Press Feeders, while the Contship Max II is serving US-based King Ocean Services.

Both ships, built in 2008 at Zhejiang Ouhua shipyard in China, are fitted with about 400 reefer plugs. They are currently deployed on trades in the Americas.

Metrostar previously exited the sector in 2014, selling five 3,430-TEU ships to Goldenport and Danaos. The move marks a renewed interest in container shipping after more than a decade.

According to shipping database Equasis, Metrostar's fleet now includes six tankers, all constructed in 2024 or 2025.
