Yang Ming Marine Transport has approved plans to add six 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel vessels as part of its fleet renewal strategy, reported the UK's Seatrade Maritime News.

The company aims to reach a fleet of 124 vessels with 1.25 million TEU in operating capacity and a 3.0 to 3.5 per cent share of the global container market by 2032. The new ships will replace aging units and chartered vessels ranging from 4,250 to 6,500 TEU.

Yang Ming said the renewal will strengthen its main service routes. The new 13,000-TEU vessels are compatible with its 10,000-TEU fleet and expected to serve as the backbone of East-West services.

Deliveries of LNG-fuelled ships will begin in 2026, boosting the company's low-carbon fleet ratio and aligning with global decarbonisation mandates. Yang Ming said the deployment will enhance environmental competitiveness and operational resilience amid supply chain restructuring.

The company added that the expansion will rejuvenate its fleet and address emission reduction requirements driven by climate change.
