Euroseas has signed a contract with Huanghai Shipbuilding in China for two 2,800 TEU high-reefer containerships at a combined cost of US$92.7 million, reports New York's Seeking Alpha.
The vessels are scheduled for delivery in June and August 2028. The agreement also gives Euroseas the option to order up to four more ships of similar size, either with high reefer plugs or conventional design.
Chairman and CEO Aristides Pittas said the move reflects strong prospects for the refrigerated container market and limited availability of modern vessels with significant reefer capacity. He described the investment as a measured diversification into a niche segment.
Following the delivery of four intermediate and two feeder newbuildings in 2027 and 2028, Euroseas's fleet will total 27 vessels with a combined capacity of 84,676 TEU.
