China Eastern Airlines (CEAir), one of China's largest carriers, with a fleet of more than 850 aircraft and a global network reaching 945 destinations across 145 countries and regions, presented a broad portfolio of digital and intelligent technologies at the Fourth CATA Aviation Conference & Exhibition. The event, hosted in Beijing in late September by the China Air Transport Association (CATA), served as the stage for the airline to demonstrate progress across operations support, passenger services, aircraft maintenance, and air cargo.

At its exhibition booth, CEAir showcased AI applications in civil aviation through physical prototypes, equipment models, multimedia displays, interactive demonstrations, and livestreaming.

A central highlight of the smart in-flight catering section was an AI-powered flexible robotic arm system built for meal arrangement. Its adaptive end effectors grasp and precisely place food items of different types and forms, enabling the automated arrangement of in-flight meals.

The smart passenger services section featured three robots developed by the airline and equipped with large-model capabilities: a service robot, a baggage-handling robot, and a four-legged robot for transfer guidance.

CEAir also demonstrated a self-developed AI-powered network management platform. The system lets users view the real-time locations of the airline's wide-body aircraft worldwide, along with the satellites they rely on for in-flight internet connectivity.

Air-ground connectivity remains a central pillar of CEAir's digital development. Since July 2026, the airline has provided complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi on all wide-body aircraft flights, positioning it among the first major carriers worldwide to offer in-flight Wi-Fi as a standard service available to every passenger.

For cargo owners tracking supply-chain reliability, the exhibition also spotlighted a set of logistics-focused upgrades. On display were smart equipment for fresh-food cold-chain logistics, autonomous baggage tractors, modular hangars, and digital terminals - investments that strengthen the efficiency and visibility of the airline's ground and cargo operations.

CEAir's operations with the domestically produced C919 aircraft have drawn considerable attention. The airline's C919 fleet has grown to 17 aircraft, operating 23 key routes that connect 14 cities. Together, these aircraft have completed more than 30,000 commercial flights and carried over 4 million passengers.

At the event's opening ceremony, CEAir's project on key technologies for large-scale C919 operations received second prize in the 2025 sci-tech awards in civil aviation, recognizing the airline's contribution to advancing the aircraft's commercial operation.
