POLICE in South Africa have raided rented rooms on a plot in Benoni and uncovered a haul of stolen goods worth ZAR1.2 million (US$82,918) that included flat screen TVs and medicines. The suspects had already fled the scene.
The goods are suspected to have been stolen from containers at Durban harbour.
Officers also found a truck loaded with "various items," reported South Africa's news 24.
The rooms were situated on Farrah Street plots in Crystal Park where residents only saw the tenants at night, either delivering or collecting goods.
Ekurhuleni metro police chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said it was the black plastic on the windows and the strange hours they kept that led police to them.
"The metro police gained access to the room and uncovered sealed boxes of dozens of flat screen television sets, tablets, herbal-based alcohol and spirit liquor," said Mr Kgasago.
